Why is it called Black Friday?

The word “Black Friday” was created in the 1960s and marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. “Black” refers to the movement of the store from “red” to “black”. When the accounting record is manually saved, the red ink indicates loss and the black indicates profit.

Since the beginning of the Thanksgiving Parade in modern Macy’s in 1924, the Friday after Thanksgiving has been called the informal beginning of the busy holiday shopping season.

 

How Black Friday become so popular?

As retailers begin to realize that they can attract large numbers of people at discounted prices. Black Friday becomes a day of shopping, even better than last-minute Christmas sales. Some retailers sell their items on Thanksgiving mornings or send email specials to online consumers a few days or weeks before the actual event. In Black Friday most, purchased items are electronics and popular toys, as these may be the biggest discounts. However, the prices from household items to clothing have declined.

Black Friday is a long day, with many retailers opening at 5 am. Even Thanksgiving afternoon and people in droves are anxiously waiting outside the window. There are many ticket trades and loss leaders whose prices are so low. That stores may not be profitable to attract shoppers.

Most large retailers publish Black Friday coupons and offer online in advance. Giving consumers time to understand sales and plan to buy. Other companies take a different approach and wait until the last possible moment. So post their Black Friday ads, hoping to create a buzz and let customers eagerly check the announcement.

More consumers choose to shop online and don’t want to wait for other shoppers. Outside or the least favorite item in the morning. Often, many people appear in a limited number of “portal traffickers”, such as large flat-panel TVs or laptops for hundreds of dollars. As these items are quickly sold out, many shoppers return empty-handed.
